About Me

I'm weird. I keep bees. Yup, bees. I lose myself at the intersections of art and science�like horticulture, photography, and Judo. I speak with an accent that is one part North Dakota (think of the movie Fargo), and one part Canadian. I like books, and cats, and chucking rocks at freight trains. I eat seafood, but not terrestrial animals. I steal the New Yorker out of my neighbor�s mailbox. I hand out beer to the homeless on Christmas.

I�m building a new kind of life�one without a lot of existing precedents�a life that will prosper no matter how the rest of the world turns out. I�ve worn a helmet and fired an M16. I�ve done a little drag, and been in riots and car crashes. I work as a biologist. I went to college in Japan, and have lived in Asia for a lot of my adult life. I am just one person out of 6 billion others on this planet.

I travel a lot for work, dividing my time between the Midwest and the West Coast where my employer is based (I could use a lot less of the Midwest part!). I find myself wandering around PDX and Sacramento in the evenings alone. My social network is sorely lacking. I�m not necessarily looking for a soulmate, but I am definitely NOT looking for anonymous hook-ups either. I�m thinking more along the lines of someone to eat sushi with or go shopping with for old punk albums.

I don�t know what my sexual orientation is. I never have, and I don�t really care. I don�t know how other people have such clarity on the subject. I hate the term �bisexual,� because it tends to imply promiscuity, or an inability to commit�neither are conditions from which I suffer.

I�ve never understood why gender is such a big factor. The same thing with race or ethnicity. Honesty is attractive. So is kindness. And intelligence. And physical health. Everything else is superf
