About Me

I'm a sixtysomething transgender person who, unfortunately, spent the first 62 years of life living the lie that I was a man. I always knew something was wrong but, unlike many of my sisters, I did not realize that the problem was gender identity related until a couple of years ago.

After reading countless accounts, books, etc and meeting many, many transgender people, I finally sought the counsel of a wise and experienced therapist and together we were able to walk through the maze and decipher the clues and come to the conclusion that I am in fact a Male to Female Transsexual person.

This knowledge has been both liberating and devastating: liberating in the sense that now my life has meaning and purpose because I finally know who I am but devastating in that, in order to free my soul from guilt, I came out to my wife and her whole world came to a screeching halt in a ball of fire.

I am the most fortunate of women in that my wife has chosen to try and understand and accept me for who I am. Some days she tries too hard and finds herself overwhelmed which brings up all of the sorrow and pain of losing her husband. Some days are good and she enjoys the love and companionship of her new girlfriend. We cry on the bad days and rejoice on the good ones.

I am now unemployed after 43 years of full time work at various, mostly technical occupations. I am volunteering my time (two days a week to start) at the Windsor Pride Community Education and Resource Centre and I'm doing so as my true self. Do I miss the stress and high pay of computer programming for the simple tasks of an unpaid office assistant? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!! It might take me an hour longer to get ready for work with wardrobe selection, makeup and hair but the pure joy of sitting in a public office in plain view of anyone walking down Pelissier Street is priceless.

My therapist has given me a referral to a wonderful, expert endocrinologist
