The "E" stands for elegant, dahling. I simply refuse to go out looking like Walter Matthau in drag! At my age, putting myself all together could take as long as an hour and a half, so if you're coming to pick me up for a date, bring along a good book to read while you wait. "War And Peace" would be nice.
The main problem with being a semi-retired old glamour queen in South Texas is the lack of places to go and BE glamorous. In these parts, "formal" mean putting on clean Levis and ironing their T-shirt.
No question about it -- I'm just a snow bunny at heart. A day at the beach is great, or a weekend at the lake with the girls. But given my druthers, I'd ruther spend a week in the mountains skiing my buns off! There's nothing more romantic than strolling through the village on a cold, snowy night, hearing the snow squeak under your boots and watching the snowflakes floating through the pools of light from the streetlamps. Or sitting in front of the fireplace listening to the fire while Mother Nature dumps a foot of fresh for the powder hounds. I'm a hopeless romantic. Besides, I can't wear my furs at the beach.
Time was when I was heavily involved with various support groups and organizations around the country. I was on the road 15-20 weekends a year. These days I'm much more of a homebody. I still get out with the girls once in a while, and there's the occasional dinner date with a gentleman. At home, I'm more comfortable in slacks and blouse, of just my ratty old comfy robe. I spend a lot of time on line chatting with friends, or watching old movies on DVD or video. I'm a compulsive reader...never very far from a good book. Just
