The more of us seen in public venues, the better we have a chance for the public to know and accept us.
A friend of mine and I were talking this weekend and our conclusion is that all the categories with which we are inflicted are exactly intended to divide us. We must not let this happen. We must steadfastly cling to our humanity. It is what we have in common. The oppressors seek to find ways to accurately describe divisions among us. Why do we let them? Why do we have to be trans, or intersex, or gender queer, or crossdressers, and why, in heaven's name do we try to label ourselves into all these distinctions, and fall into their trap. We are humans above all. We deserve all the things that all humans deserve. Its called the "greater good", by some. Is it greater good to find scapegoats to blame? We blamed blacks or people of color for years to have someone who we could separate from the "herd". Now, its illegals, gays, lesbian, bi, trans etc. What is it in the human endeavor that allows people to be scapegoats, straw dogs, or less than human. Our charge is not to fall into labels, but to fight for our humanity.
There are 6 billion people on this little blue ball. I am but one of those 6 billion. What gives any one or group the right to take my humanity? What allows them to decide whether I am worthy?
We do not need to fight for the right to be trans, or gay, or any classification. We need to fight for the right of all people to be human. What gives them this right? They are endowed upon the date of their birth, some even say before birth, at conception, with inalienable rights to be human without having the definition of some other person inflicted upon them. To me, that is our charge. We should never accept anything else, nor shou

- Erica 9/24/2009 03:33 Just thought I'd stop and say hi, Leigh. Love the glam profile pic. Hope to see you next time I'm in town! Erica
- Dean M. L. 2/09/2009 13:27 it's stamped out. To me at least, a person who transitions to a female should be labelled as such; a woman. After all that is their right and a right worth fighting for, and as you say "We are ALL human beings"
- Dean M. L. 2/09/2009 13:22 Delighted to be a friend Leigh; I thankyou! What you say above makes a lot of sense. I've always felt that a lot of labels are demeaning. We get funneled into categories, labeled to suit others, so we are easily identified and victimised as a consequence. It's wrong and I hope within my lifetime
