About Me

I remember when I joined this site like it was yesterday - it was (like I am sure it is for many) a right-of-passage. This was me finally arriving after having viewed the site for so long, it represented a chance to be 'official' , first pictures, first profile many possibilities.

It (like most things) never really worked out as I had imagined. It felt like I was joining the community as well as this site, there was a chance to connect with others like myself - to find out indeed that I was not alone.

The irony is that in joining the 'community' I found out just how much I didn't fit in, but in the process I am happier than I have ever been. I believe now that I am able to accept myself for who I am, or I am at least on the right path. My desire to fit in has been replaced with the understanding that I don't have to . . . I have wasted too much time in my life trying to 'fit in'.

I have learnt that acceptance is not about being part of something, it a gift that you can only give yourself. A greater understanding of who I am has led me to want to be somebody else less. More ironic still is that even knowing where these feelings come from has not helped me understand them one bit. But this is again the nature of acceptance - every day I feel the need to understand less and to live more.
