About Me

Wow! How things have changed. For the longest time, I have called myself "Tara Jennifer Young" on URNA, and most of my friends call me TJ. But life itself evolves, and in the last year, several life-changing events have happened to me that I feel like a brand new person. Let me (re-)introduce myself to the community then.

Hello! My name is Kate. You can call me Katie too. (If you must, you can continue to call me Tara or TJ, I won't mind.) I'd like to think that I'm a more mature version of my former self.

I'm an Asian t-girl from Toronto, whose life is still full of striking dualities: often I'm a girl, but sometimes I'm a boy (I like both, so don't make me choose!); I'm shy but also chatty; I'm a science geek (background in physics, math & PhD in engineering, but don't call me a nerd) and an artsy musician (freelance violinist and teacher); I'm a serious intellectual and a fun-loving flirt; and I'm very intelligent, but sometimes I do the dumbest things.

Yes, you saw that right. I just got my PhD in engineering recently. I suppose can you can also call me "Dr. Kate", but I really don't like that. This rather lonely journey had many ups and downs, and had taken many different turns, but at the end, it was very exciting to see all the pieces come together. In fact, this is my "Life-Changing Event #1". "Life-Changing Event #2" will then have to be finding my life-partner, a person that accepts me for who I am, despite all the struggles inside of me. Life not being alone is wonderful. While it is not without challenges, it's also rewarding. When my journey for the PhD is lonely, my partner gave me companionship without reservation.

To all my friends, everything will be explained in more details later. In the mean time, read the extended version of this profile on my new blog. Just follow the link on the left.
