I am a married, transgendered woman in my late 40's who is one year into finally accepting herself. I have a loving and accepting wife who is struggling to understand. I am also out to my children who have accepted me as I am.
I've met a lot of wonderful people over the past year who have shared with me their stories. Mine involves 40 years of denial followed by both the hardship and joy of accepting myself. If you pick up one end of the stick, you pick up the other, and believe me when I say you don't know what's on that other end until you check! And sometimes it's more wonderful than you can possibly imagine! More than anything else I've learned that and open heart and open mind can overcome a lot of obstacles (I've learned that from my wife more than anyone else - I love you dear!)
I still spend the vast majority of my time in the closet. I don't know if or when that will change, but I've discovered that I'm very patient. I have a whole rest of my life to figure things out. As I've written other places, I am a woman in progress.
